The Greatest Potato Recipe
Potato skins open up a lot of freedom when creating them. Once you have the potatoes cooked and ready,
everything else can be up to you! But, I will still give you the perfect recipe if you’re just starting out
on these yummy appetizers that are easy to make. All you need are potatoes, butter, some salt and some
canola oil, and the rest can be all up to you.
First of course, you’ll want to preheat your oven. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Afterwards, you’ll want to
wipe and wash your potatoes. Make sure they’re nice and dry before continuing. Once they’re try, rub the
skins of the potatoes with some canola oil so they’re moist with the oil. Then it’s time to bake! Place your
potatoes onto a baking sheet, and once your oven is ready, pop them in for 30 to 40 minutes, until they’re
tender and crisp. Once they’re cooked, cut the potatoes in half and scoop out the insides, leaving just a
little bit left inside the potato. Don’t turn off your oven just yet! Next we’ll want to add some butter
into the insides, and I would recommend to melt the butter first just to make it a more streamlined process.
Sprinkle some salt into the insides and then flip them over and pop them back in the oven for another 5-7
minutes. Then take them out, flip them over and bake for another 8 minutes.
Now, it’s the most fun and yummy part, the toppings! As I’ve mentioned before, you can add just basically
anything to your potato skins. Take the skins out of the oven and top them with whatever you’d like! The
most common toppings are cheddar cheese, bacon, and green onion with some sour cream to dip. Me personally,
I like to use marble cheese. I’ve also seen people add avocado, beans, chipotle sauce and many other
garnishes to their dish. No two potato skins are truly the same, but they’re yummy all the time!
I hope this recipe helps you create the best potato skins you can, although they’re always the best!
Review: Did TGI Fridays Invent Potato Skins?
Link to the article here!
This discussion has been roaming around potato skin lover spaces for a very long time, so I’m glad that
this conversation is hitting the mainstream. I’ve always loved TGI Fridays especially for their love of
potato skins. I always keep a yummy package of their frozen skins in the freezer just in case. The
article itself is quite short, it investigates the origin of the potato skins and tries to see who
actually created the delicious and yummy dish. TGI Fridays has always claimed to be the creator of
potato skins, but that’s just not true as the dates do not line up. TGI Friday’s claims that they
created the legendary potato skins back into 1974, but the article states the restaurant that created
them three years earlier in 1971, by Richard Melman. Melman created the restaurant R.J Grunts, and was
one of, if not the first restaurant to have potato skins on their menu. R.J Grunts is a burger
restaurant in Chicago and Melman was inspired by old sailors who would eat the skins of potatoes to
fight off any physical illnesses. Because of this he strived to create the easy to make yummy appetizer
we know today. So, while TGI Friday’s may have skyrocketed the popularity of potato skins, I think we
need to give some credit where credit is due here, because without Melman, we wouldn’t have potato
skins, and I don’t know what I would do without their yummy goodness!! I know R.J Grunts is still open
in Chicago, and I seriously want to visit sometime! I hope to see where the legendary potato skins all
started. Maybe I could even meet Richard Melman himself! While I still love TGI Fridays, especially for
their potato skins, I’m glad that this discussion on who truly invented potato skins is coming to light.

From Edmonton, you can take the Yellowhead Highway to the Anthony Henday, and taking exit 73 and turning onto 50 st NW.
